New Zealand Coast: Otama Beach

Another beautiful beach that is usually empty of people is Otama Beach. Past Kuaotunu Beach and Luke’s Kitchen, drive up a gravel road that twists and turns its way up and down a mountain. It’s worth it for the seclusion of this delicate little beach.
One side stretches out for a nice walk with plenty of beach for sunbathing, while on the other side are some cliffs and a small protective cove. The cliff walls are soft rock, so I wouldn’t recommend climbing them too high, though some friends did make it up part of the way before too much rock broke off.
Less windy than Kuaotunu Beach, I’d recommend either going to Otama Beach first and then heading to Luke’s Kitchen or stopping by Luke’s Kitchen for a takeaway pizza first.
