New Zealand Coast: Hahei Beach

Path down to Hahei Beach.

As a follow-up to last week’s post about Cathedral Cove, here is a post about another beach to enjoy at that same location.

From the Cathedral Cove car park, the path splits off to the right or the left, both heading down little hiking paths that lead to various beaches. The left will take you to a few different coves, including the main attraction, Cathedral Cove, while the path to the right will take you on a five to ten minute walk down to Hahei Beach. A little town on its own, Hahei is a cute place to spend the afternoon.

At Hahei Beach, you’ll find a solid walking and sunbathing beach, perfect for family picnics, travelers wanting a more solitary stroll, and anyone looking for some gentle waves. You can also scramble over the rocks in the picture above, if you’re into a spot of bouldering. Just make sure to be back at the beach before the tide comes in.

There’s even a swing you can get to by climbing up some hand grooves carved into a large rock and swinging out over the sand and surf.

Climb up the toeholds to the right.

While I’m sure the swing is intended for children, I can verify that it holds a full-sized adult.
