The Lan Su Chinese Garden in Portland, Oregon is a square city block.

It has trees, bushes, flowers, a pond, a waterfall, a tea house, several rooms featuring Chinese art, and, according to their website, “is the most authentic Chinese garden outside of China”. You can have lunch or a cup of tea, get your Chinese fortune, or attend any number of events, from art projects to musical performances to tai chi.

It’s undeniably beautiful, and incredibly serene, even in the midst of spring break week when it’s filled with tourists. I suspect it’s about to be my new favorite place to read a book on a sunny afternoon.
